12 minutes of music. Because not all the songs should be a fast experience. I remember my adolescence years in the earlier 2000s when I used to listen Jethro Tull, Genesis and Pink Floyd, daydreaming about how nice it was to appreciate such long tracks, that could be sometimes endless, carrying with them so many parts, details, that listening them was not merely a passive experience of 3 or 4 minutes, just like listening Nirvana, Punk Rock or any other type of pop song. I liked that, it was like diving into a true life experience into the depths or artistic imagination provided by music and its ‘aura’.
Told You by ridgelines is a track that brings me back those days and that experience. It mixes hip-hop, ambient music and downtempo electronic at the same time.
Ridgelines is the alias of producer Mike Johnson, from USA. Initially a drummer, Johnson started to compose his own songs in computers as his main instrument, combining them with his love for hip-hop and rock. Besides that, he uses drum machines, synthesizers, sampling and field recordings.
His full length album “Beautiful View” has been released by Cassette Label Logarithm, based in Thessaloniki, Greece. It is also possible to stream Told You on Spotify. Ridgeline’s own Bandcamp page can be found here.
